The People of Lantern Yard
I-Salient points:
*Silas Marner was a weaver. He was a young man of about 25 years. He worked hard but he didn't earn much money. He worked for his master.
*He was engaged to be married to a serving girl called Sarah.
*Every Sunday, Silas and the people of Lantern Yard prayed in a small chapel.
*Silas Marner had a strange illness. Sometimes his body was stiff so that, he couldn't move and he went into a trance. When he came out of a trance he could remember nothing.
*He had a friend called William Dane .But when Silas was engaged to Sarah, William became jealous and waited the chance to harm him.
*The chance came, when an old man of Lantern Yard became ill. The old man was dying so the young people took their turns to sit beside his bed.
*Silas took his turn to sit beside the old man. William was supposed to take Silas's turn but he didn't come.
*As Silas was sitting beside the dying man, he went into a trance and didn't awake before it was four o'clock in the morning.
*Silas found the old man dead and called people for help. Several people came to the old man house but William didn't come.
*In the evening ,he was called to the chapel. The minister Asked him some questions relating to dead man's stolen money because they found his knife near the drawer in the old man's bedroom.
*Silas defended himself but when they searched his room, William found an empty money bag in his drawer.
*Silas told William that he lent him his knife but William didn't gave it back to him and used it to harm him .Silas accused William of robbing the money but he didn't explain his word to people.
*The minister and people accused Silas of robbing the money of the dead man and found him guilty after making lots.
*Silas said that the lots didn't show the truth and God refused to help him and said he wouldn't believe in Him any more.
*For his evil words ,they asked him to leave them.
*Sarah sent Silas a message telling him that she would end their engagement and marry William Dane. Then he left Lantern Yard.

Chapter (2)
The weaver of Raveloe
I-Salient Points:
* Raveloe was a small village in the English Midland, surrounded by green hills, wood and fields. It was a pretty place far from any big town.
*The most important buildings were a beautiful old church and a big, red-brick house which was the home of Squire Cass.
*The Squire owned most of the land around the village and many villagers worked for him.
*The weaver Silas lived at a one roomed cottage, out of the village. Beside the cottage, was a stone pit .
*The sound of the weaver's loom could be heard every day. It even could be heard on Sunday because the weaver never went to the church. Silas had come to the Raveloe fifteen years earlier.
*The unhappiness and years of hard work had changed Silas. His back was bent and his eyes were very short sighted.
*The weaver was forty years old but he looked much older. The village children were afraid of him and called him "old Master Marner".
*Silas was a bachelor, he was well known in the countryside around Raveloe, because he walked many miles to sell his clothes.
*After fifteen of hard work he could save two leather bags full of gold coins. He was paid well for his good work and he had no master.
*Silas hid the two bags in a secret place under the brick floor. He used to lock his door ,took out the two bags, empty them onto the table and look at the shining coins.
*Silas was not interested in his neighbours. But very soon Marner's life was going to change for the second time. He would ask the people of Raveloe for help.
*There would be more sadness in his life but great happiness too.
